Cover of The Co-op Intership Experience in Science and Engineering: Perspectives of Women Student and Advisors book

How do women students in male-dominated fields such as science and engineering perceive their internship experiences?

Based on a study of women undergraduate students and advisors, this text aims to answer this question by addressing several themes such as women’s under-representation as well as positive aspects and challenges experienced during internships.

The text concludes with recommendations to help ensure that women students have a positive internship experience.

A book to improve
women representation
science and engineering

Research shows that the problem of women’s underrepresentation in SE is the result of many factors such as the influence of gender stereotypes and social belonging, the effects of family and peer environment, low exposure to female scientific role models, or girls’ and boys’ representations of science and engineering and associated careers.

The question now arises: What role does the co-op internship experience play in addressing the underrepresentation of women in SE?

A book for employers, human resources, internship and placement services.
